When we decided to take a trip to California, we planned on spending 3 days in San Diego and 4 days in San Francisco. If we didn't already have accommodations in San Fran we 100% would have chosen to stay in San Diego! With it's beautiful architecture, perfect weather, and amazing food I cannot think of a better place to spend long summer days. During our 3 days we went to the ocean beach (which is called OB in California-for the first day I was convinced this was a Star Wars reference), Old Town, and the San Diego Zoo.
San Diego is a huge city that is divided into many sub-sections. There is an actual city with tall buildings and cool restaurants, but the best parts of San Diego are definitely near the ocean. Ocean beach is famous for its cliff views and furry friends.
Old Town is a section of San Diego that by far has to best food! If you are a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine, then go no further than Old Town. Our first day there we went to El Agave, Since then i've wanted their tacos and tequila mojitos everyday of my life! This area of the city offers small shops, haunted tours, Spanish architecture, delicious food and much more. If you are in San Diego, Old Town is a must!
There are many things you can do and see in San Diego, but the one thing I was most excited to do was the San Diego Zoo! This zoo is one of the largest and most abundant zoos in the United States. It holds more than 600 species of animals and resides in Balboa Park, which is a stunning garden on its own. The zoo is an AZA accredited zoo, meaning there are strict rules and regulations they must follow to keep their animals safe and respected as species ambassadors. As a science buff and avid zoo follower (be honest, who watched April give birth?) this was an incredible experience.
Do not forget to bring your student ID. if you wait to buy tickets at the door you can use your student ID for discounted tickets!
San Diego is one of those places that you will never want to leave. Do not forget to pack comfy shoes and sun block because you will be outdoors the entire time! To end this post here is a funny video that may make you want to visit the city even more!
