48 hours in Edinburgh, Scotland

Updated: May 28, 2020

Out of all of the places I have traveled so far, Scotland has been the most magical and exciting. If you are an Outlander reader like I am you can imagine how incredible it is to walk the same streets as James Fraser. Edinburgh is a city in southern Scotland that is home to Edinburgh castle, Arthur's seat, Mary queens close, and some of the most beautiful architecture in the country. If you find yourself here, but do not have an abundance of time here are my top suggestions:

This is an underground tour that allows you to explore what life was like for the people of Scotland during the plague.

J.K. Rowling discovered names for her characters, and locations for her book in Edinburgh.

4. Hike Arthur's Seat

If you are interested in seeing all of Edinburgh and love the outdoors, I would suggest hiking Arthur's seat. There is a long path and a short path, and both ways give stunning views!

Food

Here are the best places for food while walking around the city!

1. Whiski bar & restaurant: If you have never tried traditional Scottish food this will be the easiest transition into the classics. You must get the neeps and tatties, haggis, and sticky toffee pudding. You will not regret it!

2. The Pear Tree: Great outdoor pub for when the weather is nice.

3. La Barantine: need a coffee and something sweet? This cute cafe has just what you need.
